Responsibilities include conducting full docking and special survey, including thickness measurements as per LR Rules for Naval Ships for each Halifax Class frigate on the East Coast of Canada, to issue a certificate of class for the hull upon satisfactory completion. Once the vessels have entered class, ensuring the survey regime is followed and they are maintained in acceptable condition. Completing surveys in accordance with ANEP-77 NATO Naval Ship Code to ensure vessels are compliant, currently focusing on Escape, Evacuation and Rescue (EER) which involves full survey of the vessel to ensure the correct lifesaving equipment is onboard and in suitable condition as per DND key plans, and that general alarms, emergency lighting, and other lifesaving aspects such as rescue boats and life rafts are functioning and in satisfactory condition. Other NSC certifications such as Communications and Fire Safety will follow upon completion of EER.Attendance of other work scopes such as inclining tests or machinery trials upon request from the Department of National Defence, as machinery certification will be completed following hull. Responsible for all ship survey reporting, controlling the inspection & test plan, and carrying out all relevant communications with shipyard, ships staff and the Department of National Defence employees.Training new hire surveyors to become competent and efficient in the execution of naval ship surveys.

Two four-month work placements from January-April & September-December.Assisted in performing audits/inspections onboard chartered supply vessels and at contractor sites.Performed a gap analysis to extend the Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) platform dry docking date by comparing all marine standards and regulations and providing supporting evidence.Began creating the “vessel strategy plan”; a list of specifications for a new build vessel required when new offshore platform is in place, and outline for number of vessels needed to efficiently carry out field operations.Conducted multiple trips offshore, including to SeaRose FPSO in White Rose Field to witness testing of equipment and completion of planned maintenance with a DNV-GL Surveyor, and completed process safety tour with the purpose of identifying hazards and mitigating risks onboard.

Used MATLAB to process and analyze ice-induced loads measured on the hull of the S.A. Agulhas II, a polar supply and research vessel on voyages in Antarctica.Input observations of ice concentration, thickness and floe size with corresponding ship draught and speed at proper time stamps into Excel, compiling a large file used by engineers in the department.Created a formal technical report entitled “The Process of Analyzing Maximum Ice-Induced Loads on the Ship Hull”

Two four-month work placements on the Hebron Project from January-April and September-December.Completed finite element modelling and analysis (FEM/FEA) for numerous structures and mooring equipment foundations to ensure structural integrity, and modelled barges and spacers used on site for additional stability analyses.Created multiple technical reports published within the project, including the Structural Design and Analysis of the Taklift 6 (Heavy Lift Vessel) Spacer Barge.Visited subcontractors to observe fabrication of structures or barge demobilizations while ensuring procedures or fabrication drawings were correctly followed.
