Since 1997, when she co-founded Ripple Effects, Alice Ray has focused on the use of technology to provide personalized skill building, problem solving and personal guidance to students whose behavior and/or life circumstance, puts them at risk of school failure, and to teachers who need further development of their own social-emotional competencies and their ability to manage diverse learners. Her singular contribution has been to synthesize a large body of multidisciplinary research and translate it into engaging interactive experiences, with proven positive impact on learners' attitudes and behavior. Ripple Effects software has been listed on the National Registry of Evidence Proven Practices (NREPP) as a children’s mental health and substance abuse intervention, with documented positive impact on resiliency assets and academic achievement. Since retiring as CEO, she has focused on strategic governance issues as Board Chair. Alice is the recipient of numerous awards for social leadership, entrepreneurial success as a woman business owner, and creative excellence -- including 8 emmys, a dozen national film and video awards, and more than two dozen software awards from the education, health and communications industries. A long time social entrepreneur, she has worked for more than three decades to help schools address non-academic factors in school success. In 1982, as the first ED of Committee for Children she brought the Talking about Touching curriculum to market, and in 1986 conceived and supervised development of Second Step, a violence prevention curriculum now used in more than 26,000 schools. On foundation sponsored scholarships, she received an Executive MBA from the University of Washington, in 1987. For most of the next decade, she provided consulting to non-profits on making good works, good business, before teaming up with Sarah Berg to found Ripple Effects.
