SAI provides substantial capacity building services for its its corporate members' supply chain management systems and for companies seeking to implement credible standards and codes, such as SA8000 or the ETI code. SAI is best known for its SA8000 standard, which was designed in 1997 by a multi-stakeholder Advisory Board to assure decent workplaces and excellent human resources management worldwide. SA8000 is based on United Nations and ILO Conventions and Declarations, and on the ISO management systems. More than 2 million people in 65 countries work at factories and farms certified to SA8000.
