My internship at Peace Corps headquarters was a truly global experience. Not only was I exposed to new countries, world issues, and ideas, but I discovered a service ethic that has influenced my life and career ever since.A few of my specific accomplishments at Peace Corps included:• Supporting Peace Corps 45th anniversary events by writing about notable Peace Corps volunteers for the Spring 2006 edition of 
Peace Corps Times, a newsletter distributed to employees and volunteers worldwide.• Writing press releases on newsworthy events including the top Peace Corps volunteer-contributing colleges in 2005, which was covered by college media nationwide.• Monitoring media coverage by compiling daily news clips for Peace Corps employees and volunteers.

NOAA Fisheries was my first off-campus college internship. What an experience! Every day offered a new opportunity to learn about writing, communications, and building relationships with colleagues and the media. Not only was this internship a solid professional experience, but it was also personally meaningful because I grew up in New Bedford, one of the top commercial fishing ports in the United States -- a city most people at NOAA were familiar with, even though we were hundreds of miles away from my hometown.A few of my specific accomplishments at NOAA included:• Researching and writing a 700-word bylined centerfold article about dolphins rescued after Hurricane Katrina for the October 2005 edition of NOAA Report, a newsletter distributed to NOAA staff nationwide.• Writing an issue-focused letter to the editor on behalf of the NOAA Fisheries director that was published in the New Bedford Standard-Times, the daily newspaper in one of the nation's top commercial fishing ports.• Assisting with media calls and facilitating interviews between reporters and NOAA scientists, resulting in coverage by media outlets including CNN.com, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Richmond Times-Dispatch, and the Delaware News Journal.
