The Head Office Accountant is responsible for accounting and management reporting of all support cost centres as well as support the operating profit centres Financial Controllers in reconciliations and balance sheet reports. Further responsibilities include the Accounts Receivable, Fixed Asset and Tax (BAS, FBT and normal tax) function for the group. This includes preparing the consolidation of the group as well as preparing the financial statements for the auditors for sign off. The group structure was quite complex and create many challenges around consolidations.Daily management reports and cost control reports prepare and send to the homes. (The focus in this industry is payroll and billing and it is important to report on this daily).Monthly management reports send out to the homes and meet with Home to discuss their performance.Grant management and collection.Significant Achievements:Some of the improvements that I have done is to implemented a new report where the homes can trace their daily roster and hours against their authorized budget and signed roster. Another task is to implement a process for the homes to understand and manage their own budget as well as costing. I went out to the homes and assist the home manager (Director of Nurses) and administration clerks in managing their own cost. Some of the challenges in this kind of operation are to get the buy in from the managers and admin personnel at the home to implement new procedures and be more financially focused.

Key Responsibilities:The Commercial Manager is responsible to assist ATS in implement up back office procedures for better accounting and management information. Other responsibilities include implementing new in house developed software and acts as an analyst between WA and Sydney (head office).

Key Responsibilities: Oversaw the complete accounting and regulatory reporting functions of the bank and ten staff members reporting into the position. Monthly duties include reporting to the holding company, Bidvest Ltd, Tax and VAT returns to the South African Revenue Services and the regulatory (DI) returns to the South African Reserve Bank. Served on the Basel II steering committee and responsible for all financial interfaces from the general ledger to the treasury system.Significant Achievements:Initiatives that I have championed include: the implementation of transfer pricing using Activity Based Costing in the bank, the setting up of the accounting interfaces for the debit card project, the new improved creditor reconciliation process and currently I am responsible for aligning the bank’s accounting policies and reporting with IFRS. Other initiatives were to streamline work flow and processes within the finance department as well as implementing new procedures for better use of technology and computer software. During my three years I did various impact analyses for implementation of new products. This entailed financial models and cost analyses to ensure the implementation of the products were done smoothly and effectively. African Bank Miners Credit is a medium tier bank specialising in Micro lending to Miners in South Africa. They are a full subsidiary of African Bank. This role reported into the CFO and had three people including an accountant reporting into it.Key Responsibilities: Prepare all documents for the auditors as well as monthly financial reporting to the holding company that includes the consolidation of three joint ventures with different year end dates. Budget per product and monthly reporting and forecasting on the actual status of the loan books. (I also did analyses of the products that included implementation of new systems and financial models to manage the loan books on a more hands on day to day method.) Set up the accounting function for the joint venture with Teba Bank Ltd. (I gained a good deal of experience as far as consolidations and other joint venture related accounting and tax issues are concerned seeing that the position was highly technical.) Initially the different loan books were done on excel and a year later the system was build to interface with the point of sale system. (I was involved in the testing and spec of the new computer system to ensure accuracy thereof.) Responsible to ensure the ageing of the loan book are correct and provisioning was calculated correctly according to IFRS as well as GAAP.Significant Achievements:I did the implementation of the credit and board committee pack as well as the graphs and trends of the delinquency of the loan books. One of the other major projects I successfully completed was the implementation of Accpacc. The project spanned over five months during which time I was responsible for setting up the accounts, managing external contractors and introducing the change to the business..I initiated impact studies in the business. One of the main impact studies that I conducted was to assess the impact of AIDS on the South African mining industry and our business.
