- My teaching philosophy is to bring real-world situations into the classroom. There are many international conflicts and social problems in developing countries and it is crucial to use real-world examples in hands-on activities that allow students to approach these situations using critical thinking skills to find solutions. Using hands-on approach leads to critical discussions, brainstorming, and creating real solutions.First Year Seminar Courses:- Taught first-year students techniques, tools and resources for a successful transition to the intellectual and personal demands of college life.- Provided students with self-awareness, learning strategies, academic skills, and individual direction to succeed within the higher education environment as well as in the world of work.Social Entrepreneurship / Social Innovation Courses:- Explored and analyzed social businesses, including non-profit and for-profit enterprises.- Studied the key players and organizations, particularly through the lenses of being a social entrepreneur.- Taught the mechanics, tensions, and realities of starting and/or managing a social enterprise.- Brought presenters that have experienced start-ups to class to share their stories.- Had teams present social idea pitches at the end of the course to selected audiences; two projects are currently established as active entities on campus.

- Initiate and implement an annual peer mentorship program of approximately 20 peer mentors working with 300 to 400 first-year students.- Provide curriculum training to peer mentors to co-teach with First Year Seminar course professors.- Develop intensive quantitative and qualitative assessments to support university retention.- Recruit experienced mentors to provide support and encouragement to make the first-year students feel at home at Gallaudet through a “living and learning community” approach.- Supervise mentors through a three-credit course to enhance human relations skills and leadership skills.
