Managing Instructional Designers based in global locations I work within Customer Services supporting European training for CS Advisors. In March 2012 Amazon created a UK Operations Leadership Development role to enhance and enable the leaders within the Operations division. This required creating all material on the key aspects of leadership within the company, building a team of professionals that could bring this to life whilst partnering with Global Leadership vision. 6 months into this role I was requested to take on the leadership of the overall Learning and Development teams at each of the 8 sites in the network focusing also on hourly development and process training.• Creating a modular approach to key business needs such as Goals and Objectives, Leadership Concepts and Personal Development Plans.• Creating a full competency framework across all operational levels to distinguish both techinical and behavioural requirements and allow self and manager evaluation and progression tracking• Developing,enhancing and owning the hiring programs for MBA Interns and full MBA placements, Graduates and Apprenticeships across a range of functions.• Driving a standard and consistent approach to process training and development for hourly workers.• The introduction of external profiling through Strength Deployment Inventory to enable leaders to focus on team dynamics in their own leadership groups.• Partnering with Europe on the introduction of a standard on-boarding program for all new hires.

Starting as the covering HR Manager for the Milton Keynes site and being made permanent in March 2008 saw me leading the largest HR team in the UK region with two key regional process run out of my site – Payroll and UK Labour Management. In March 2010 I was selected to be the HR Manager for the new Peterborough site and had to work initially in a solo capacity to ensure all HR functions were in place. With the team being new to their roles and Amazon I also gave guidance on the operational focus of the business and in the initial build out created the first parts of the now standard UK salaried on-boarding program.• Working towards a strategic HR environment• Ensuring the business is up to date with legislation changes• Handling a range of complex HR issues including a high number of conduct and dignity at work related incidents• Driving and guiding new individuals towards the amazon cultures and behaviours.• Developing new HR individuals to be successful in their roles and in place for succession within the business.• Becoming a subject matter expert in the associate hourly pay structure and on-going review for the UK.• Setting up and engaging with Associate Forums and Focus Groups.• Creating a culture which sees HR as truly part of the operational network.

My role allocated me a total of 17 operational managers and their associates totalling over 400 individuals, dealing with all aspects of HR interaction. Within this role I lead on all management training requirements for effective leadership within both Marston Gate and our Scottish sites and controlled the Occupational Health Account and all Occupational Health cases across the site. Duties included:• Attending performance review workshops in Seattle and ensuring the training and roll-out was completed effectively back on site• Ensuring immigration legislation was followed correctly• Leading the HR Management training courses for the UK sites.• Providing mediation and conflict management resolution• Developing and driving Performance Management throughout the Out-bound sector.
