I was a young Mechanical Engineering graduate with zero experience in the Medical Device Sector nor Quality Engineering for that matter. In less than two years, that young graduate became the key liaison for multiple OEM programs, statistical analyst for CI initiatives, 21 CFR Validation Facilitator and Principle Engineer for a multimillion dollar acquisition of Medical Device machining / finishing process capabilities. This rapid development was only achievable through Alin’s exceptional mentoring and management abilities. His ambition, confidence and work ethic became contagious from the first time I met him. Furthermore, Alin’s ability to think strategically, while still supplying straightforward decisions on individual issues caused zero confusion on what my key objectives and priorities were. His keen sense to understand the strengths and weakness of each individual team member allowed a successful environment for many concurrent Quality and Process Improvement initiatives. Most importantly, Alin’s open-door policy created camaraderie within our team that I have never experienced before. This type of environment made it easy to put in the extra hours; knowing that I was creating a platform for all of us to succeed. An example of the priceless advice Alin supplied that stood out to me the most; ‘A good Quality Engineer will never accept ‘scrap’ as ‘scrap’ until they have analyzed every possible rework opportunity, no matter how far outside-the-box they get’. At that time, I thought he was only regarding Contract Manufacturing. I now understand the macro-engineering lesson he really taught me; never accept something for what it is until you have identified every possible opportunity to improve it." and "Quality is based on two precepts: Predictability in All Things and with No Waste. With these percepts in mind Alin was successful to move his team forward within the organization at Sandvik Medical Solutions in a short time frame. Alin with his communication skills developed a shared vision with the team and kept the team motivated and inspired in difficult problem solving sessions.
