I attended the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) in Brazil where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, graduating with honors (GPA 3.71) in January 2015. As an undergraduate intern at the Laboratory of Catalysis at UFV, I developed my skills with homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. My work focused on developing techniques and searching green routes for the synthesis of biofuels for over 2 years. The results obtained by our team granted us the publication of a chapter in the book Biodiesel - Feedstocks and Processing Technologies.Working abroad as an intern for one year in the prestigious Sigman Lab, at the University of Utah, was an exciting challenge. I had the opportunity to learn techniques in Organometallic Chemistry, which was then a new field to me, and in my second language. I worked on palladium-catalyzed three-component-coupling strategies for the differentialvicinal diarylation of terminal 1,3-dienes. I became proficient in using air-free techniques (Schlenk line and glovebox). I synthesized reagents and analyzed products via Thin Layer Chromatography, Column Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, and Supercritical Fluid Chromatography. Research results led to the publication of a paper in the renowned scientific journal, Organic Letters. I have also taught English at an accredited English school for a year in Viçosa, Brazil. I helped students develop self-discipline and consistency. I had a high success rate teaching English to students of various ages, from teenagers to seniors. I handled an average of 50 students, planned and prepared lessons, lectured classes and graded homework and exams. The experience being a teacher helped me improve my understanding of people’s questions or concerns, and strengthened my ability to guide them to learn foreign concepts.I’ve also had the opportunity to work as a Quality Control Technician at Nature’s Sunshine Products, in Spanish Fork, UT. I got used to working in a GMP regulated environment and got practiced at following SOPs and filing reports. I have experience working with a broad variety of both unfinished and finished products, which range from cosmetics, cleaning supplies up to dietary supplements. I am comfortable preparing and analyzing samples through GC and LC, ph meters, IR machines, visco meters, refractive index meters, brix meters, and I also have extensive experience with specific gravity, performing gravimetric and volumetric analysis, as well as color, taste and odor control.
