Independent research project supervised by Professor Robbie Mcdonald focusing on the ecology of the harvest mouse. The effect of land use and management practices on harvest mouse nesting presence and abundance was quantified across an agricultural landscape. Extensive field work, liasing with landowners, data analysis and scientific writing all practiced.

Tremough Campus

Research project investigating the potential impacts of artificial lighting on small mammal abundance and diversity in a suburban setting. Two part study with the first being correlational and the second a field experiment. Used a range of survey techniques including Longworth trapping, hair bait tubes and vegetation quadrat surveys

I aimed to increase student participation in conservation and ecological activities by leading a committee and ensuring a wide range of opportunities were available to students. Written and verbal communication skills developed through meetings with external collaborators, corresponding with local organisations, writing funding applications and evaluative.

Assisted with data extraction by video analysis of blue tit bird boxes, recording provisioning rate, sex and food type to allow the student to look at foraging preferences of parents in relation to territory quality.

Field assistant for MSc student looking at the effects of anthropogenic noise on feeding behaviour of nesting blue tits. Assisted with the recording of clutch size, stage of development and box visiting rate. Also assisted an Exeter MSc student looking at the effect of street lighting on bat diversity and abundance. Helped with urban transects in a range.

Field assistant for the practical conservation of green and loggerhead turtles in Northern Cyprus. Night beach patrols conducted to record turtle nesting behaviours, collect morphometric data and learn how to tag individuals. Assisted in raising public awareness, weekly beach cleans and hatchling biopsy's to obtain samples for further molecular research.
