About Alexandra Soluri
With a strong history in fine arts, creative design, research, marketing and educational leadership; I feel I am not limited to art-focused careers only. My educational and professional backgrounds have taught me to deal with all different types of people and problems. Facing challenges allowed me to tap into my creative problem solving skills in order to not only tackle the issue at hand, but to make the experience a learning opportunity for both me and my students/ clients. I also gained strong customer service skills by dealing with parents and clients when I was an art director by creating effective lessons, being able to resolve any issues for a positive outcome, market my art classes and maintain a great reputation. Being able to adapt to different situations especially when teaching individuals with disabilities is essential in order to prevent chaos and create a space where creativity, play and social engagements are encouraged. Working in an industry that makes people feel vulnerable is where I shine. My passion for working with the public and the community at large has shaped me into a charismatic professional. I throughly enjoy working with people with mental and/or physical disabilities because art making gives them a better understanding of themselves and their relationship within society. Art making encourages creative confidence, a better sense of empathy and gives them a powerful voice. During my studies in graduate school, the most interesting lesson I learned was about design theory, and how the design thinking process can be used in any problem solving situation. I loved how design thinking got people talking in a nonjudgemental way, and instead fostered a collaborative way of communication. I strongly believe collaboration within a class, school or company is essential for success. I’m very excited to use the lessons Ive gained over the past eight years in order to improve, enlighten and provide an alternative approach in my next job endeavor.

CurrentI volunteer to raise money and interest in order to renovate, maintain and grow the OHS campus. I’m involved in several large projects that are going to beautify the campus. I also work to keep up budgets for departments in need. My goal is to market the school by academic, athletic and constructional development. I work closely with OHS PR team as well as faculty who have certain needs and ideas. I attend events where I give speeches on projects and reasons for parents to consider OHS a great option for their children. I was the Art Director and lead art instructor for this non-profit creative arts association. I ran summer camp programs that included costume design, set design and arts and crafts activities for the performing arts and fine arts campers. During the school year, I was in charge of implementing art curriculums for ages 3-12, in which I would teach Monday through Friday. Also, I would visit a Title 1 school once a week; and in order to implement and teach art and art appreciation to students from grades kindergarten through sixth grade.

I followed all instructions from the Lead Teacher in our classroom. We specialized in 3-4 year olds. All education was based strongly off of the Montessori belief that children should be more independent in their educational and behavioral encounters. We had a curriculum that included all the core subjects necessary for a child to be successful in any educational setting; but we highly promoted self-confidence and problem solving techniques. I was in charge of the creative summer camp and after school activities, in which I maintained the Montessori mentality while using stimulating creative activities to challenge the students.
