About Alis Garlick

With an education in Commercial Photography and Interior Design (RMIT), Alis Garlick's trans-disciplinary practice explores the boundaries between image and object, engaging in curatorial methods of spatial production. Alis explores the role of an interior designer potentiated within a contemporary art practice, shifting between the positions of observer and collaborator, neither singularly artist nor designer. Alis’ sculptural and curatorial work manifests this trans-role, lingering between an interior designer and a curator - an inter~ator. Often engaging collaboratively, her works with found objects are an attempt to spacialise these dialogues.~Alis has exhibited at the Design Hub as part of the Situation Symposium (2014) in collaboration with Belgium artist Remco Roes, George Paton Gallery ‘Artist Books (reprised)’, and Rooftop Art Space ‘MATTERS’ with Hannah Moriarty and has been represented by Otomys Gallery (2014-18). Alis currently teaches into the Interior Design program at RMIT and is an Interior Designer at Melanie Beynon Architecture & Design, Melbourne.

Listed skills include Photography, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Adobe Creative Suite, and 7 others.

SITUATION — a symposium and exhibition — convened and arranged by RMIT Interior Design, in partnership with IDEA (Interior Design/Interior Architecture Educators Association)Through verbal, written and physical dialogues we constructed and traversed an interdisciplinary landscape that contained both clarity and obscurity. The common ground turned out not to be the hub, but the immaterial site of our dialogue itself.
