There are core skills needed to be an industrial designer. I have those skills. I also have non-traditional skills that have helped me to become a better more well-rounded designer. Working in Interior design helped deepen my understanding of CMF, the use of space, and furniture design. Working at the BYU store helped me understand people and how to understand and meet the needs of the customer or user. And I learned how to have fun, teach kids, and that curiosity has no age limit during my time at Mad Science. Those experience have shaped my view of design and got me excited to graduate and apply them and continue to learn more and more over time.
