In the case of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the cause is often linked to the aggregation of amyloid beta (Aβ), therefore, it is important to appreciate the mechanism of Aβ aggregation in order to develop a cure for AD. In my work, I implemented multiple mathematical models describing unique mechanisms of aggregation and fit them to Aβ aggregation data under conditions of no and high shear to determine the most likely mechanism of Aβ aggregation under the examined conditions. Results were achieved by applying the primary nucleation model and the secondary nucleation model to previously collected data showing aggregate concentration over time for the naturally protective variant (A2T), the naturally causative variant (A2V), and the wild type (WT) of Aβ.
