I maintain and add new features to the intraoperative specimen documentation tool. When a surgeon removes something from the body during a surgery, the nurse needs to record what was removed and what tests should be done on it. I make sure that this is done as easily and thoroughly as possible.I am responsible for the tool from end to end. I design, code and do bugfixing for user-facing UI elements, administrative configuration options, and back-end code. Some projects I have worked on include listing recipients for lab results directly when documenting specimens, a redesign of label printer settings, and preventing edit conflicts when multiple users are editing the same specimen order.My typical days often require collaboration with other teams at Epic and customers. I talk to other developers to discuss shared code, end users to establish the details of requested features, and quality assurance testers to diagnose issues.

I worked in Professor Suzanne T. Staggs's Cosmology experiment lab. My summer was mostly spent constructing, programming an interface for, and testing a vacuum chamber which was to be used for photon filter testing. I used LabView and SolidWorks, and worked in the physics shop to shape metal parts for the chamber.

I worked in Professor Wendell T. Hill's Ultrafast Dynamics lab. Over the summer I worked on programming an algorithm in LabView for a multiphoton intrapulse interference phase scan (MIIPS) system. The MIIPs was used as an automatic pulse shaper for a laser to ensure that the light's phase was consistent across the spectrum.
