In this role I mark exam papers for the Level 3 Advanced Extended Diploma in Animal Management (Zoo Pathway). This involves standardising with the team of examiners and providing feedback on the mark scheme to ensure quality across all exam papers. I work within tight deadlines in order to ensure the papers are marked efficiently and maintain good communication with the lead examiner.

Through this role I carry out moderation activities to check quality of marking across centres. I conduct and document moderation, quality assurance and advisory activities with centers providing reports and feedback to centres. I conduct moderation visits to centres and carry out remote moderation of assessments.I provide advice and guidance to centers on moderation and marking of the internally assessed,externally moderated and validated assessments. I also produce reports and feedback for City & Guilds and the centre on: quality of marking and assessment, collection of evidence, issues identified through the moderation process and best practice.I participate in training and standardisation activities to ensure continued improvement andconsistent performance as a moderator. Keep up to date with any relevant changes to City & Guildsproducts, services and systems.

The role included:-Managing, coordinating and directing animal centre staff’s schedules, ensuring 24-hour cover of the facility. Organising schedules to ensure all sections are suitably staffed.- Managing, developing, and coaching staff and leading on animal centre meetings, staff training and personal development. Carrying out Performance Development Reviews, absence monitoring, and CPD of staff.-Writing and implementing safe systems of work, training processes, and risk assessments. -Managing, coordinating, supervising, and providing training, coaching, and supporting animal centre staff to follow SOP's to carry out routine husbandry of animals. -Ensuring a high degree of animal health by overseeing the carrying out of daily health and behaviour monitoring. Ensuring reporting and records are maintained.-Liaising with veterinary professionals on the diagnosis and treatment of any animals of ill health; oversee the administration of veterinary treatment directly as advised/instructed.-Supervising animal transportation/ movement from or to the collection. Completing health assessments of all animals and the relevant paperwork and online documentation relating to this.-Liaising with the budget holder, and complete ordering as per college systems to ensure safe use and availability to meet work and curriculum requirements. -Coordinating, supervising and providing training, coaching and support for animal centre staff to ensure that safe systems of working and husbandry best practice protocols/procedures are implemented and adhered to. To ensure staff are demonstrating, in an informative and educational way, skills to students and supervising students during sessions as they practice skills to recognised industry and curriculum standards. Ensuring that all students are fully supported, and their individual needs are met.-Coordinating and organising promotional activities for the department. Contributing to college marketing and open events.

In this role I worked one night per week within the student services department. This role primarily involved supporting students and ensuring safety and safeguarding of students was maintained.Worked to support Safeguarding Officers in the enhancement of the College reputation by helpful information and directions being communicated to students and visitors to the Campus.Participated in regular patrolling of the campus in order to ensure that campus security is maintained. Established effective working relationships with all interdependent areas of the college in order to support co-operative partnership working and to maximise the learner experience. Supported Safeguarding Officers in all aspects of their duties in order give the best possible service to the student body.Assisted in the locking/unlocking procedures of buildings on campus in order to ensure effective security arrangements are in place Worked with the Safeguarding Officers in order to ensure effective management of departmental budgets. Liaised with line management in order to ensure full value for money is given.

In this role, I was responsible for manning the reception, handling phone calls and supporting and assisting with customers. I maintained the health and welfare of inpatients and monitored them following procedures or surgery. I assisted the vet in handling and restraining animals during consultations, surgeries, and other procedures. I also dispensed medication under veterinary instruction. This role involved good time management when booking consultations, and a calm and supportive manner when communicating with clients who were upset. I developed a good understanding of animal health and welfare through my time at Acacia Veterinary Surgery.

At the Liverpool World Museum I worked in the aquarium delivering public talks and feeds. I also carried out demonstrations with rock pool animals such as crabs, starfish and shrimps among others. I organised children's activities as part of my volunteering experience.

In this voluntary role I helped out with the education department in delivering programmes for children and other visitors. I delivered talks to bird watchers about the animals at the site. I developed childrens activities which aimed to teach them about conservation.

During my time there I learnt basic behavioural training of the pinnipeds at the sanctuary and the reasons for conducting such training. Working with such large marine mammals was an interesting challenge which gave me a great sense of achievement especially as the results of the training are clearly visible. I also prepared the food and medicines for all the animals, which also included ponies, goats, sheep, penguins, and otters. I also assisted in presenting talks for visitors and showing the guests the various exhibits in the sanctuary.

I volunteered in South Africa with a local conservation charity for three months.I worked at a school in a township and taught the children there some concepts such as food chains and habitats. This was especially difficult as the children spoke no English; however I wrote lesson plans and included teaching methods to engage the children in a practical way. I collected data from a number of different sources which was then used in reports. Sampling was done through Tag and release fishing, Dive habitat and fish population surveys and, river quality assessments. During my time there six loggerhead turtles became stranded and were brought into the volunteer centre. They were too weak to be released so rehabilitation was started in which measurements of weight, length, shell length and shell curvature were taken. I organised other volunteers in monitoring the turtle’s conditions and preparing food for them as well as water changes in the aquariums. I also wrote a project proposal to the environmental organisation Cape Nature in order to obtain a licence to house the turtles. When the turtles reached a healthy weight they were released back into the ocean. Another project undertaken was the rehabilitation of the rare Knysna Seahorse after its habitat was completely destroyed in a flood. The three seahorses were maintained in aquariums and luckily enough a few weeks later, 86 babies were born. The plan was to reintroduce them into a nearby estuary after a survey of the food supply was carried out. The seahorses came from the 34 South aquarium which I also helped at by carrying out water changes on the tanks and water testing. I completed a marine guiding course which allowed me to give presentations on whale watching tours. During these tours I collected data on cetacean and bird behaviours and movements.Other projects included animal rescue, encouraging conservation in the local community, Organic farming, beach clean-ups, and assisting with fundraising events.
