About Alison Baxter
As a Principal Landscape Architect Alison has helped lead on a diverse selection of National and International projects, covering all RIBA work stages. Her work areas include strategic planning, major infrastructure, urban regeneration, and environmental enhancement schemes, as well as mixed use residential and play design. Her latest work involves designing a number of film studios in sensitive locations, large scale masterplanning and recently was shortlisted for the 2024 World Landscape Architecture Award for Conceptual Residential Category which transforms a former quarry into a ecologically sensitive residential development. Alison is familiar with plant typologies across numerous continents and environments and leads on planting design and schedules for her projects. Alison has realised numerous schemes within London, Woking, Oxfordshire, Ealing Broadway, Bristol, Cheshire, Jersey, Uzbekistan and Moscow, which also won 'Best realized project of complex residential landscape design' at the 10th Russian National Landscape Architecture Awards during November 2019. Alison's experience includes earthquake recovery strategy design with lightweight structures having worked in New Zealand. The project focused on developing a heritage park and conservation of indigenous structures and places. Her key areas of interest are planting design, biosecurity and inclusive play and street design which she has numerous experience working with play designers, and concept design for inclusive play both in the UK, Uzbekistan and Russia.Alison holds her CSCS Professional construction site card for site based projects, trained in First Aid at work, as well as Mental Health First Aid for the workplace. In her spare time, she is a qualified Climbing Wall Development Instructor and Foundation Coach with the hope to encourage others to get the most from the great outdoors and stay healthy.

My time working with Lucas Associates was spent creating a concept visual document for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, CERA to save the Heritage and the 'Garden City' culture in the East of Christchurch after liquefaction had dissolved the landscape. The area had been zoned red, ie uninhabitable but the buildings themselves could be saved. Therefore the concept strategy was to initiate an alternative landscape and set out a recovery strategy which would save the heritage of the area. We worked with Ngai Tahu, Otakaro network, and Sport Canterbury and the City Council to create a 7km memorial park including sport, arts, ecological value and heritage. 25000 people signed the partition to make it a park and not to rebuild. The partition went to parliament in May in 2013. I lead meetings with a Government branch, 'Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority', (CERA), advised funding and investment for projects, co-ordinated with a full interdisciplinary design team and community members, trying to keep morale high after such a devastating time with multiple earthquakes. The project was available online for the community members to have an active input within the projects development so that we could save as much of their community as possible. Restoration, financing projects, research development, client liaison, Public presentations were just some of the areas I gained experience in during my time at Lucas Associates.

I was employed by Chester Zoo with the Horticulture and Botany team for three months, whereby I created a database of AutoCAD drawings to aid the team with Plant ID and planting plans, updating and compiling a public online portfolio for the Zoo, looking particularly at exotics and endangered species. This was done in connection with surveying, construction of bridges and planting beds, maintenance and customer care as part of the overall work with the Horticulture team.
