Qualified in 1996 from Kings College, University of London and then spent 10 years in clinical oncology nursing including 6 years at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust as a senior staff nurse and ward sister in chemotherapy and day unit outpatients, and time in Dublin Ireland furthering my career. I became a nurse specialist in cancer information and support in 2006. This included the writing and producing of patient information at Cancer Research UK, and then becoming the Senior Nurse Manager for Cancerbackup, and managing 9 information centres and their staff around the country and in Jersey, managing stakeholders and key relationships within the NHS and charity landscape.I manage the Macmillan Information and Support Centre at Chelsea and Westminster NHS FDN Trust. The new site (since April 2019) offers information on all types of cancer (any question about any cancer), emotional support, complementary therapy (inc massage and reflexology), a counselling service, HOPE course (twice yearly), and run various health and wellbeing sessions for patients and their families. During the NHS Response to Covid-19 - I was vaccination clinical lead at The Science Museum and at Westminster Abbey, and spent 6 weeks during the first wave in the family support team at The Nightingale Hospital (Excel).I have also worked in A&E, Respiratory nursing and previously lectured on subjects such as breaking bad news, coping strategies, resilience in palliative care and information giving. Honorary guest lecturer at the London's Metropolitan University, lecturing in aetiology and pathophysiology of cancer, and advanced communication skills at UCLH.Other areas of specialty include CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy and level 2 counselling cert), and I have a personal interest in resilience and survivorship in cancer/palliative care.
