Profile bio

About Alison C. Simcox, Phd

Currently, an Environmental Scientist and Engineer (recently Acting Manager) in the EPA Region 1 (New England) Air Quality Branch within the Air and Radiation Division. Since 1998, I have been Region 1's expert in Particulate Matter (PM) pollution, responsible for ensuring that states comply with the Clean Air Act. I manage programs to reduce fine particle (PM2.5) emissions from point sources (power plants, industry), and develop programs (wood-heater change-outs, targeted monitoring) to reduce PM from biomass combustion. Since 2015, I have provided technical support to EPA’s Office of International & Tribal Affairs. Our team is developing a program in partnership with the Environmental Protection Administration of Taiwan (EPAT) called "South and South East Asia - Air Improvements in the Region" (SSEA-AIR). The purpose of this innovative program is to help Asian countries (provinces and cities) build technical capacity to reduce air pollution, with an emphasis on reducing particle pollution.I also serve as EPA liaison to the Air & Waste Management Association (AWMA), an international group that provides training and networking to environmental professionals. In addition, I am a member of EPA's Response Support Corps, certified as a Resource Unit Leader and Safety Officer, with deployments to Louisiana (Feb-Mar 2006) following Hurricane Katrina and to EPA's Region 2 Emergency Operations Center (Oct-Nov 2017) following Hurricanes Irma & Maria. Before to moving into Air Quality, I worked as a Hydrologist at EPA Region 1 and as a Hydrogeologist/Geologist and Reports Specialist at US Geological Survey (USGS). Outside of work, I am co-author of four local-history books published by Arcadia Publishing (2011, 2013, 2015) and The History Press (2017). We are currently writing a fifth book, which is scheduled to be published in Spring 2020.

Listed skills include Air Quality, Fine Particle Pollution, Biomass Fuels, Caa, and 20 others.
