My role as Essential Skills Leader in the Construction Department involved both organisation and management of staff and students plus teaching. I was responsible for ensuring all full time students and Apprentices were initially assessed, enrolled, taught and achieved the appropriate Maths, English and ICT qualifications in order to achieve their main programme of study/Apprenticeship in a timely manner. Tracking the students' progress and achievements and providing reliable data could be challenging, requiring me to be motivated, organised and able to prioritise. I have an outstanding track-record for delivering Maths and English to vocational employed students; this can be evidenced by the 95% success rates of the apprentices I have supported and is one of the best success rates for apprentices nationally. Part of the success was due to developing curriculum resources and materials that were contextualised to meet the needs of construction students, helping them to relate to the topics and engage them. My role also required me to be up to date on Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity, Disability Equality, E-safety and Health & Safety. In addition to this, I was also responsible for overseeing and maintaining the quality assurance of Essential Skills carried out within the Department.

- Teaching Maths, English and ICT at Entry, Level 1 & Level 2 to Construction students from different trades with a range of academic abilities, this included both full time student and apprentices..- Planning & delivering lessons to motivate and engage learners.- Developing appropriate resources that students could relate to.- Classroom management & behaviour, safeguarding, E&D.- Assessing work and keeping records.

- Helping and supporting students to develop/present their portfolios, integrating ITC skills.- Working alongside construction tutors to improve & build students' literacy & numeracy confidence. - Developing student centred packs & support material to deliver Key Skills, contextualised around Construction/Health & Safety.
