I have decided to offer my support through agency work for the time being.

Belgium

Due to my husbands work we found ourselves relocated to Belgium.I work part time in a private international school supporting English speaking students of various ages. I support children on a 1-1 basis some with challenging behaviour and some with dyslexia traits. As I worked with younger children previously my knowledge of dyslexia and strategies is limited. As a result I have done a few free online courses just to give me a little more understanding. I have worked with children on toe by toe and have done the Blackwell spelling test. I've also offered advice and support to teachers and teaching assistant's working with various different SEN issues. During the corona virus pandemic the school provided online learning for all of the children very successfully. I kept in touch with the children from my normal class and also took children in small groups to offer reading and extra support where it was needed.

Work closely with the class teacher to plan appropriate activities working towards early learning goals.Set up many of the strategies that are now in place within the school. These strategies did not previously exist as we did not have children with such challenging needs. Outside agencies and other schools have visited the school to look at our best practice. Experience of working with visual timetables, PECS , TEEACH method and creating social stories. Improvising school resources and adapting them to the needs of the child. These needs are specific to each child therefore have made many of my own resources, much of it in unpaid hours.Built up excellent relationships with parents and outside agencies liaising frequently. Working under own initiative always considering the needs of the child their family and the school.Very proactive in my approach to new challenges and will visit other settings in my own time; including the pupil referral units and local Special Needs schools or schools with enhanced resources. Working on exercise routines given to children with poor muscle tone and attending hospital appointments. Take children out to practice reading and taking my own phonics group of 5 SEN children. Take small groups of children out of class to the sensory room where we broaden the children’s language and imagination skills. Liaise with multi-agencies, teachers and parents concerning child’s progress and future needs.
