Profile bio

About Alison Howard

I am interested in the following leadership positions: Elementary Principal, Secondary Assistant Principal, Special Education Supervisor or Equity and Inclusion Coordinator. I believe my experience and skill set make me uniquely qualified for any of these positions. My career began in 2005 in Hoonah, Alaska where I taught math and ELA, (6th-12th grade) to Native Alaskan students. I returned with my family to Michigan and have been employed in the Rochester Community Schools for the past 13 years working in special education as a resource teacher both at the elementary and middle school level. I am highly qualified with the Michigan Department of Education to teach Math, Language Arts K-8 and Learning Disabilities k-12. Prior to the Pandemic I completed my Education Specialist credential at Wayne State University. I’m eligible to receive an Administrative Certificate from the State of Michigan, upon district request. With my ED.S in Special Education Administration and as an IEP Coach I am well versed in Special Education policies. In addition to my role as a Resource Teacher, I have served as Teacher-in-Charge since 2018. During this time, I have supported students in crisis with restorative practices which includes peer mediation, communication to staff and families with the goal of restoring positive classroom relationships. I have served on PBIS and MTSS committees for many years. My own PBIS, SEL and MTSS training became critically important during COVID-19. It helped me to initiate conversations with administrators, teachers and parents to identify, develop and implement strategies that would help students who were having difficulty accessing curriculum in the remote and hybrid environment.I have focused much of my training and professional development opportunities on the complexity of cultural diversity and equitable practices in education. I have also facilitated numerous professional development session on cultural proficiency that were designed to help my colleagues deepen their understanding of these critical issues. The goal always to grow in our awareness and the necessity to create the best learning opportunities and environments for all students. As an administrator, I aspire to promote equity and inclusion for all members of the school community in a safe and supportive environment. I believe my experience and skill set have helped prepared me to be a leader who is committed and engaged in the learning process and will work side by side with stakeholders to bring best practices and opportunities to the students in your community.
