Clemson, Sc, Us

Clemson’s Global Health Certificate Program is a 12-credit program that exposes health students to the challenges of health around the world. The culmination of the program is a four-week study abroad trip to Ollantaytambo, Peru. We worked with Ayni Wasi, a local NGO that promotes health in remote high-altitude communities. Their main focus is sustainability, recruiting, and training elected prometoras, or health promoters, who become the health provider for the community. While the program focuses on low-resource countries, it has also taught me what it means to be a global citizen and has given me a greater worldview that I will be able to carry into my life and work as a nurse.
