Conduct weekly office hours and review sessions for 1L Civil Procedure students

•Conduct intakes with detained non-citizens, review legal assessments with supervising attorney, and provide follow-up with detainees and their family members•Draft and edit applications, affidavits, and legal pleadings for submission to the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration Court•Research state criminal statutes for clients with criminal records, factual country conditions for asylum seekers, and recent Board of Immigration Appeals and Seventh Circuit decisions that impact immigration legal strategy

•Manage the intake process for the Law Project, which serves upwards of 300 clients per year. I conduct phone and in-person intakes in English or Spanish, identify legal problems, and work with attorneys to provide any follow-up assistance or make appropriate referrals. •Record all client information, cases, and outreach in our online case management system PIKA. I compile and submit calendar and fiscal year reports of our data to our Director of Foundation Relations and Media. •Perform a variety of administrative support tasks such as updating the project’s website and social media, creating and updating informational brochures, and drafting letters and memoranda. •Schedule and organize outreach with volunteers from the community and with employees from our funders.•Assist with interviewing, training, and supervising law student and paralegal interns.•Provide logistical support in legislative advocacy efforts on behalf of the Law Project and the Coalition (at the state and local level)•Co-coordinate our organization’s scholarship program which includes managing all applications and conducting interviews, planning and executing the scholarship awards ceremony for awardees and donors, and working with the students to maintain a relationship and assist with college success.

•Worked as a full time volunteer paralegal on the Children’s Justice Project. The position placement was through Amate House Young Adult volunteer program where I lived in an intentional community with 11 other participants, received educational and leadership development opportunities, and performed full-time volunteer services.•Conducted “Know Your Rights” group presentations and individual intakes two to three times a week to locally detained immigrant youth in Spanish, English and through interpreters in a variety of other languages.•Maintained case-related information in client database and prepared case summaries and legal immigration documents and materials.•Accompanied detained youth to immigration court in Chicago and filed motions to change court venues weekly. •Assisted in maintaining accurate data for funders and reaching out to prospective donors via phone calls and email.

Latino Family Project: Assisted in Marquette University Psychology Department’s development of a culturally appropriate ADHD scale for use with Latino families. Project FUN: Parents and Youth Together: Administered height and BMI measurements, diet recall intakes, and directed families on how to complete online intervention program.FAMD Adolescent Diabetes Research Project: selected for presentation of research at Pediatric Research Behavioral Conference for co-authoring of the abstract, FAMILY MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ILLNESS: A CHALLENGE AMONG ADOLESCENTS WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES MELLITUS
