Two month contract to provide senior advisory services to Rio Tinto's Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) operation, located in the Northern Territory. Day-to-day activity comprising issues management, media relations, internal communications, stakeholder engagement planning and broader corporate communication support.

Six month contract to manage a domestic and international strategic media and marketing campaign for the Queensland Government, linked to the G20 in Brisbane. The role consisted of an extensive stakeholder relations program across government departments, a creative agency and media purchasing company. Key components included media, advertising, website redevelopment, stakeholder research and engagement.

ACHIEVEMENTS: - Led the media and communications work stream on the integration project following Rio Tinto’s acquisition of a metallurgical coal mine in Mozambique, Africa. This involved training a local media and communications team, embedding global corporate consistencies, undertaking a brand roll-out and supporting the development of local communications platforms. - Improved the reputation and profile of my employer as a valued corporate citizen by managing a best practice partnerships program focused on community health, Indigenous youth development and sustainability. This led to state and national award wins for Rio Tinto, helping build its brand as an employer of choice and improving relationships within strategically important communities.RESPONSIBILITIES: Managing brand and reputation, organisational communications, crisis management, external communications, investor relations media, speeches, media training, media spokesperson, sponsorship negotiations/management and stakeholder engagement.

ACHIEVEMENTS: - Managed the official opening of the Clermont Mine in October 2010. The event required logistics including chartered aircraft, site-compliant coach buses for tours, catering, marquees, staging, speeches, HME displays, entertainment and facilities for the 150 people attending which included VIPs such as a Premier and Cabinet Ministers, joint venture partners and customers. The event received extensive media coverage and provided a first class showcase of what was then Queensland’s newest operating mine. - Built a communications strategy for Rio Tinto’s Mine of the FutureTM program. Working with the Head of Innovation and his globally-based team, a strategy was prepared to help grow Rio Tinto's profile as a sector leader, using both technical and mainstream media. RESPONSIBILITIES: Internal communications and media for Managing Director, internal and external communicationsmaterials for seven coal mines (Hunter Valley and Bowen Basin) and corporate office, media and external reporting requirements for ASX-listed Coal & Allied, community relations materials (including campaigns, events, advertising and newsletters), website content management and sponsorship management.

ACHIEVEMENTS: - Managed media for the Safe Youth Parties Taskforce, an initiative set up after a teenage death at a party. Working closely with the Police Commissioner, Minister and father of the teenage boy, we achieved extensive media coverage of initiatives such as how to register a party with the police and how ‘one punch can kill’, helping improve the safety of teenage parties and reducing violence. RESPONSIBILITIES:- Selecting, managing, preparing and delivering all media issues for the Minister – including mediaenquiries, speeches, media releases, launches, events, interviews, photograph shoots, parliamentary question time and debates. - Participated in policy briefings, managed media enquiries, worked with the Director of the Queensland Police Service Media Unit and the Media Manager of Corrective Services, managed key internal and external stakeholders.
