Responsible for the strategic planning of publicity campaigns for all Hurst titles, as well as overseeing the communications strategy for the company.

Responsible for promoting the Pluto brand and titles globally. I work in partnership with established institutions to hold events, and maintain an extensive network of media contacts. My role requires me to stay up-to-date with rapidly developing stories, and to pitch comment pieces and story ideas to newspapers, magazines, radio and television. I run publicity campaigns for approximately sixty books a year, and am responsible for everything from campaign strategy and planning events, to responding to media inquiries and organising author visits.

I was responsible for publicity and marketing campaigns for approximately twenty titles a year for the Portfolio Penguin imprint, which publishes books in the areas of economics, finance, entrepreneurship, business leadership and strategy, and self/professional development. I devised a strategy for each campaign, scheduled all media and events, and handled all logistical matters for authors and their teams. Major campaigns included 'In My Shoes' by Tamara Mellon, 'Daring Greatly' by Brene Brown, 'Bend, Not Break' by Ping Fu, and 'Jony Ive' by Leander Kahney. In my role, I met with journalists, editors, producers, and event organisers, and pitched book and feature ideas on a daily basis, and sought out new media contacts and partnership opportunities to expand the imprint’s network. My role also required me to liaise regularly with the rights and sales team, sending them campaign email updates on a regular basis and presenting titles in internal meetings. I was also responsible for writing press releases, creating mailing lists, overseeing the Portfolio catalogue, and creating marketing material for the sales team. On the editorial side, I read and assessed book proposals, wrote jacket copy, edited manuscripts and ensured they adhered to UK libel laws. I ensured all Portfolio titles met in-house editorial, design and production deadlines, and worked closely with staff in Penguin's international offices.

I assisted two acquisitions editors at Columbia University Press who handle books in political science, international relations, literary studies, American history, and Middle East and Asian studies. I was responsible for managing approximately fifty projects at a time from inception to completion, while meeting in-house deadlines. My tasks included preparing editorial and launch memos, preparing manuscripts for production, applying for grants, and securing permissions. I regularly presented projects and highlighted their main arguments to the editorial board, the sales team, and the publication committee, which comprised of Columbia University faculty members. My position also required me to work with other departments within the press, as well as interact with authors, reviewers, and publishers by email and phone on a daily basis.
