Senior Coastal And Flood Risk Consultant
The main focus of my role was to lead on projects associated with coastal and fluvial flood risk management, in conjunction with the delivery of flood risk solutions.Main duties involved in the preparation of detailed technical reports and analytical work to accompany planning applications for numerous development schemes throughout the UK for sites associated with coastal and fluvial environments. The scale of the projects I was involved with ranged from the creation of single dwellings and extensions to the construction of large subdivision schemes. The objective was to help my clients develop sustainable and appropriate developments and secure planning permission, whilst also providing robust advice and design solutions in relation to flood risk and coastal management. I also worked closely with local authorities and other government organisations, providing advice on flood risk and helping to develop strategies, schemes and mitigation measures to reduce the impact of flooding. As such, the role included the understanding and application of relevant Environmental Planning Policy relating to flood risk management, which includes site specific information on potential sources of flooding. In support of this, I undertook both 1D and 2D hydrodynamic flood modelling using a range of software including (e.g. TuFlow, Eurotop). My role as a senior member of staff entailed mentoring and allocating work to junior staff, overseeing their work and providing guidance when required.

Coastal Modeller
During my time working within the modelling team at ABPmer, I was extensively involved in a number of coastal modelling projects; in particular I played a key role with the numerical modelling work for several proposed offshore wind farms. For these studies, I was involved in the detailed construction and calibration of hydrodynamic and sediment transport models using the Delft 3D numerical modelling package. This included testing of scheme designs and scheme effects in the models developed, in order to provide Environmental Impact Assessment support for each of the wind farm developments. In addition to the modelling of tides, waves and sediment transport processes, I also developed particular expertise in extreme value analysis for wind and wave data.
Coastal Process Scientist
In this role I was responsible for planning and conducting GPS topographic beach surveys along the Kent and Sussex coastlines as part of the Strategic Regional Coastal Monitoring Project. Other duties included the quality assurance, processing and analysis of data collected, and the production of technical reports. The role involved coordinating with external contractors and other local authorities regarding beach survey work in areas along the southeast and southern coastlines of England, to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Environment Agency. The role also included undertaking coastal studies and providing expert advice on coastal processes and surveying matters for the council and regional partners.
