During my time as an Extension Intern, I had the opportunity to learn and experience more than I ever could have imagined. With my internship being sponsored by Dr. Virk and Dr. Porter, UGA Extension Precision Ag Specialists, I had the unique opportunity to be involved in several research trials, collecting data biweekly for the entirety of the summer. These studies ranged from those analyzing Dicamba drift, cover crop impacts on infiltration and experimental corn and cotton varieties. Additionally, I was able to learn a lot on the ground by working under Mrs. Pam Sapp, Jefferson County Agriculture and Natural Resource Agent. In this position, I worked to develop a digital presence for Jefferson County Extension by rebranding old, unused accounts into one that serves the people by broadcasting information about upcoming workshops, crop alerts and 4-H events. In day to day work, we touched on everything from troubleshooting farm and ranch mechanics to precision ag analysis to homeowner lawn-care solutions.
