As Communications Manager, I am responsible for writing and producing the firm's technical journal on a variety of topics related to the building envelope. I develop articles for trade publications and reach out to editors to identify opportunities for collaboration. I also coordinate the company's online presence, including website and social media. In June 2020, I was honored to be selected as Chair of Hoffmann Architects' Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Through this work, I led the committee in implementing a student loan repayment employee benefit - the first architecture firm in the country to do so - as well as partnering with the Connecticut Architecture Foundation to establish a Diversity Advancement Scholarship for students of color entering the architecture and engineering professions. We've launched a DEI book club, a blog, educational programming, event listings, volunteer and team-building opportunities, online discussion forums, and more. Our committee's work garnered the firm the inaugural J.E.D.I. Award from AIA Connecticut. In addition, I provide communication guidance and writing support for human resources, business development, professional correspondence, technical writing, and other materials. From creating the firm's employee handbook to supporting development of drafting and technical standards, I apply my writing background to diverse business purposes. As new regulations and industry developments arise, I prepare informational bulletins alerting building owners and managers to changes that could impact rehabilitation projects and operations. I also develop materials for award submissions, including design and preservation project awards and recognition of the firm's professionals. As part of Hoffmann Architects' educational outreach, I develop presentations on topics of interest to building owners and design professionals, including material for the firm's course offerings at educational institutions, conferences, and private corporations. In my roles as a communications professional and J.E.D.I. advocate, I strive for inclusive and empowering programming that elevates the discourse on the building enclosure and highlights voices of the diverse professionals contributing their talents to the field.
