I clerked for Roberts, Favreau and Copeland JJ.A. In this role, I reviewed, summarized, and assessed factums and materials to assist judges in preparing for upcoming sitting weeks; conducted legal research; fact-checked draft decisions; and conducted thorough technical and stylistic edits of draft decisions. I gained experience working on a wide range of appellate matters in both criminal and civil contexts.

I carried a caseload of approximately 15-20 files, primarily of clients who had been denied social assistance. I conducted all file work necessary to assist clients, including conducting legal research, drafting memos and written submissions, and gathering, reviewing, and submitting medical evidence. I communicated and met with clients frequently to update them on the status of their case and to answer any questions that have arisen. I also conducted intake with new clients frequently.

I analyzed recent Supreme Court of Canada and appellate-level decisions through writing articles for online publication. I provided stylistic and technical editing as well as substantive editing.

I coordinated and oversaw a team of law students to produce accurate and insightful summaries of Supreme Court of Canada and other appellate-level decisions for online publication.

I drafted submissions for a variety of immigration and refugee files, including refugee claims, humanitarian and compassionate applications, sponsorship applications, RAD appeals, and judicial review leave applications. I also conducted a range of legal and social scientific research to assist with ongoing refugee and immigration files. In addition, I wrote a first draft of a submission to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants about pandemic border restrictions on behalf of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyer.

In May 2020 and May - August 2021, I was a research assistant for Professor Amar Bhatia. My research largely focused on Canadian immigration and refugee law, including compiling an annotated bibliography and literature review of all recent scholarly developments in the field. In March - May 2020, I assisted Professor Benjamin Berger with copy-editing and proofreading several chapters of Criminal Law and Procedure: Cases and Materials (12th Edition).

I was the Dean's Fellow for Accessibility and Inclusion for the 2020-2021 school year, and was Dean's Fellow for Public and Constitutional Law in 2019-2020 for Professor Emily Kidd White.

I copyedited several articles for publication, assisted with internal reviews of submitted papers, and oversaw Junior Editors conducting footnote reviews.

I assisted with research and drafting memos and reports on a variety of ongoing projects largely in the Equality Department, including police and immigration detention, racial profiling, surveillance of activists and marginalized communities, and the rights of LGBTQ students in schools. I also wrote regular articles highlighting civil liberties issues in recent legislation and jurisprudence for their Rights Watch website.
