My first job after college was with Citymeals-on-Wheels as Program Coordinator, and I was working in their offices on 9/11. Although the office was closed on 9/12, I went to see if there was anything I could do, and I discovered many other people were calling to offer help. Citymeals had connections to many restaurants which were empty, and volunteers at Bloomberg were eager to help with transport. I found that some senior centers were unable to receive food deliveries because bridges were closed, so I was able to connect the Bloomberg volunteers with restaurants to deliver gourmet meals to homebound elderly while their regular supply chains were interrupted. I figure out a way to get things done when necessary, sometimes in new and unexpected ways.
