I am a Family Medicine Physician whose practice is based on the biopsychosocial model of care. By understanding not only the health condition, but also the environment a person lives in and their own attitude towards healthcare, I am able to provide care that is individualized to that patient. This is the challenge that brings joy to my practice after 20+ years in the clinic. As a Family Medicine Physician I take care of individuals and families with an emphasis on wellness and prevention. As part of their care I manage chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, mental health conditions, and deal with acute conditions as they come up. I believe that the Patient/Doctor team is a partnership, and that it takes time to create that relationship. I work with people to figure out how their lives impact their health and how their health impacts their lives. In accordance with my philosophy about the Patient/ Doctor team, I spend a lot of time educating my patients about their options when it comes to their health. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Massachusetts Amherst then continued on to work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the lab of Dr. Monty Krieger studying the LDL receptor. Three years later I attended Harvard Medical School to earn my MD. I completed my Residency through the Aurora Family Medicine Residency Program at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where I was named Chief Resident in 1999. After graduating in 2000 I stayed at St. Luke's as an Assistant Professor in our Central City Residency track. We focused on teaching residents who were interested in providing high-quality care to an underserved population. I followed my passion for Community Medicine and left academics in 2007 to work at Milwaukee Health Services, a FQHC on the North-side of Milwaukee. In my 7 years there I was able to develop many new skills. We partnered with GE Healthcare to learn Lean business processes, took leadership classes for my new role as Chief of Family Medicine, and was involved in many QI projects. In 2014 I then joined QuadMed. Their model of care focuses on prevention by allowing enough time in a visit for the Patient/Doctor team to address all areas of health. It has been a great fit given my areas of interest.
