Challenged policing practices that discriminate against centuries-old African-American cultural traditions through legal advocacy for cultural bearers; organized campaigns to protect New Orleans’ public spaces that promote the city’s unique culture; drafted cultural awareness curriculum and facilitating trainings for the New Orleans Police Department as on-going training and at the police academy; documented the history of police misconduct against the cultural community through a multi-media website; and coordinated and facilitated meetings with cultural bearers and representatives from the mayor’s office, city council, and the NOPD.
