Alison is a leading Planning and Environmental Solicitor and Advocate, with over 15 years experience of advising developers across a wide range of projects across the UK. She was called to the bar in 2013 and practised as a Barrister at Kings Chambers before accepting a Partnership position at Walker Morris LLP in 2017. She joins Freeths to established and lead the Planning and Environmental Team in Leeds, adding further strength and depth to its existing national team.She is one of the few solicitors to have appeared before the Supreme Court as a Solicitor Advocate, successfully defending a planning permission for major quarry development in North Yorkshire. She has a well established advocacy practice in section 78 planning appeals, spanning waste, energy, residential and commercial development and is recognised for her tenacity and client centred approach. She recently acted for a statutory undertaker, securing important protections for her client, in the DCO for Sizewell C. In the waste sector, she has particular experience in landfill, energy from waste and End of Waste/Circular Economy and recently secured the successful grant of planning permission for a major landfill extension in the South East, having represented the operator at a two week Planning Inquiry.Alison has particular experience of dealing with complex biodiversity issues on development sites, including Biodiversity Net Gain, nutrient neutrality and drainage connection/water law issues.
