I’ve always been a self-motivated learner and enjoyed solving problems in ways that might not seem obvious to most. Taking ideas and making them a reality gives me a thrill. Whether that be with stories, programming, music, business, or anything else.My love for learning started early. I began homeschooling when I was nine and would often trade cleaning/babysitting/baked goods for private lessons in biology, French, flute, Japanese, oil painting, or whatever it is I wanted to learn. As you can probably tell, I was a curious little bugger. One interest always led to another.For example, I first got introduce to programming through knitting. I’ve been knitting for a long time and I found the similarities between the two crafts fascinating. When I was fifteen I decided to try my hand at some basic JavaScript and started teaching myself how to program through my library’s subscription to Lynda.com. I’ve been running with it ever since. Since COVID-19 hit I’ve been teaching myself how to program in Dart and Flutter.My non-conventional approach to education spilled over into my work experience. Growing up in New York City, most of the positions you’d think would usually go to teenagers go to adults. However, I was undeterred! I found most of my jobs through networking or starting my own small businesses. Over the years I had businesses in face-painting, pet care, cleaning, making Christmas ornaments out of candy, and nannying. Not terribly earth-shattering, but for a sixteen-year-old they got the job done! My desire to learn and create continues to burn bright and I have big goals for the future. I aim to become a more influential entrepreneur and have ideas for businesses and applications that I’m currently doing market research for. Through my college and life experiences, I plan to gain greater skill and knowledge I need to make those goals a reality, and, eventually, help others as they strive to accomplish their goals.
