About Alissa Miller

When I was little, whenever I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would say a Nurse. I had the toy medical kit with the stethoscope, and would walk around “helping and saving” anyone who would let me. I carried this professional passion through high school, earned a scholarship, and enrolled as a nursing student in college. Little did I know that playing a collegiate sport, studying abroad, and having a queasy/vomit/pass out reflex at any sign of needles or blood, would make it impossible to continue on my nursing track. I felt completely lost and had no idea what to do with my passion for helping people in the medical field. My Dad had been in the insurance industry forever, but my understanding of insurance at the time was boring and complicated. Faced with the reality of graduating with an unclear direction for myself and limited job offers in 2008, I reluctantly resorted to learning the insurance industry. I started with the fundamentals—plan designs, networks, rate negotiations—all things that made me realize my purpose in this industry was much greater than I imagined. I am an employer advocate that approaches employee benefits as an opportunity to educate, guide, and discover each employers unique needs in order to ensure they have the health and wellness benefits they need for their very unique employees. I have the responsibility to be a subject matter expert for my employer groups and answer all of their questions and concerns in the ever-changing healthcare landscape. I am second generation health insurance working in a company that I am very proud to be a part of. Quartz values and mission statement could not align more with the way I approach my business and my career aspirations.Being a Senior Large Group Account Manager enables me the ability to help countless employees make the right decisions for themselves and their families in the healthcare world—which has been my passion and purpose from the start.
