As part of this role, I’ve created and implemented a Lock Out Tag Out Procedure + Policy and an Electrical Safety Procedure, and am also responsible for mitigating the company’s risks when managing contractors. I excel at prioritising tasks and managing my time which is why I regularly find myself managing multiple projects concurrently. My strong knowledge of WHS legislation and regulations combined with my keen eye for detail means I excel at hazard identification, risks assessments and auditing. One of my biggest achievements in this role has been steering the creation and then implementation of TasPorts HSE Contractor Management Framework which has resulted in expanding the pool of HSE compliant contractors, improved contractor participation in WHS activities and reduced the number of stoppages from health and safety incidents. WHAT I DO: ✓Schedule + conduct Audits on the Safety Management Plans and Safety documentation, ensuring the systems comply with AS4801 ✓Conduct ICAM Investigations + produce recommendations to address root-cause(s) ✓Chair fortnightly project safety meetings ensuring follow through on action items ✓Recommend and collaborate with senior management to remedy safety issues ✓Prepare monthly reports compiling WHSE statistics for the board ✓Upskilling managers and contractors on their WHSE obligations ✓Identify and eliminate potential hazards and mitigate risks[1625 characters] Show less

Granted, sometimes a big stick is required to make people realise that safety is to be taken seriously, though only sparingly and most certainly only as a last resort. To often as a safety advisor in a new role I hear the words "look out here comes safety" this tells me that safety is not a culture within the workforce but an enforcement.We as work health and safety advisors need to change the attitudes of our crews and make them believe that working safely and going home unharmed is the only alternative Show less
