I was the Business Unit manager, responsible for the Agency and a team of 8 full time members of staff. I worked with my team to recognise their strengths in order to maximize their full potential. I produced a well structured local marketing plan in 2009, comprising of advertising in magazines, local radio and attending local events including Bristol Balloon Fiesta. This was highly successful and led to future similar marketing strategies.

My role as Group Secretary includes co-ordinating branch meetings, ensuring the concerns and queries of our local farmers are voiced at national and national level. With a strong agricultural background, I am well placed within my role as NFU Group Secretary, to work with and support local farmers.

Thornbury

I supported 145 Farmer & Grower Members. As part of this, I dealt with Members’ queries in an effective and timely manner, communicated important information to the relevant Members and NFU staff and held regular Branch meetings and social events with topical guest speakers. Throughout my time working with NFU, I developed strong links to the wider rural community through a variety of means including attending local action group meetings and relevant communities to ensure I knew about the successes and improvements required for the Union.

I researched business opportunities in the organic dairy sector with a specific view to add value to Sayers Farms organic milk. My role included producing a market report on the UK organic dairy sector and successfully applying for grant assistance from Soil Association to look at potential business opportunity for new Cornish Organic Milk brand. During my consultancy, I attended the South West Food & Drink Multiple Grocery Supplier Development Programme, run by Levercliff Associates which was fundamental in building on my knowledge of the industry.

Higgins Agriculture Ltd were the largest independently owned supplier of potatoes to the UK processing industry. I was a member of the division, Higgins Seed, which supplies seed potatoes for the parent company's in-house requirement, as well as for other blue chip customers and export markets. During my role, I was the Project coordinator of SAPPIO LINK (Collaborative Research) July 1999 – Nov 2002, Project coordinator of an EU CRAFT Co-operative Research Project (Framework 4) Jan 1999 – Dec 2000 and Chairman of VTSC Association (high grade seed potato producers of Scotland) Nov 2003-Oct 2004.
