At many of the world-renowned institutes that I’ve been fortunate to work at, the projects there have involved implementing processes to automatically ingest and analyse. Typically, these always tend to be complex tasks but I love the end results of having robust software tools to speed up data analysis. Quoting recent feedback again; “Alistair was instrumental in the increase in speed, efficiency, and quality of genetics data being ingested into GSK through 2022 and 2023”.Adaptable and always keen to learn - A running strand throughout my career is being adaptable and always be willing to learn something new across a broad spectrum skills. I have real-world experience of really being a full stack computational developer traversing dealing with raw, messy data through clean-up, database work, analysis and communicating results. I’ve had to adapt to new software languages, together with the vast change in the volumes of data being processed.Mentoring - In recent years I have been evolving into more of a player-coach. This has seen me mentoring colleagues as the subject matter data expert and on programming. But also willing to get my hands dirty with coding and data. This can be implementing processes from gathering raw requirements and being a data sleuth to resolve issues in data sets. Team player - At many times duing my career I’ve been a bridge between biologists and scientists without a computational/technical background. Equally I’m comfortable in providing technical advice to colleagues with similar technical backgrounds to deliver on projects.
