Builder and woodworker for most of life I suddenly found myself thrust into the entertainment world. Speaking engagements and charity events. Anyone who knows me knows I don’t have any problem doing public events and speaking engagements but it’s very much in contrast to my nature. I think if you’re in the spotlight it only follows that you gravitate towards it, but that’s not so I have to fight to stay in it. I gravitate away from it. Self promotion is not in my forte’. Writing a book and then saying hey everyone look at me.look what I did is very discomforting for me. But if you don’t do it you won’t sell any books. You have to push push push sell sell sell and I find that leaves an unpleasant taste in my mouth. You just write something and you want people to enjoy and take something away from it that’s positive or uplifting. I pick up Tom Clancy novels at charity shops and I think wow my book looks like the chamber of commerce pamphlet compared to this. But thankfully I have the 5 biggest fans in the world my mum and my children. If I write something and I don’t hate it I worry. I won an award years ago for a dining room I designed and built and I told my children that I must have done a thousand things right in that room but when I’m in it I only see the 4 things I did wrong and I think if that ever changes you’re done. The moment you love your own work you’re doomed.but it’s only natural to want to be liked So I just write and hope something in it affects people in a good way.
