Field Design Engineering (Global)
CurrentAlistair joined Apple on 3rd March 2008 with the initial goal of building out "Carrier" & "Field" Engineering teams, outside of the US. These organisations would be integral to aiding Apple mature their cellular portfolio, post the successful launch of the original 2G iPhone, and allow the deeper commercialisation of future wireless products throughout the globe. The organisations and expertise were built-out in key European & Asian countries to start with and their efforts focused on driving of Apples chipset vendor, interworking with Apples Carrier partners and the engagement with internal development teams to successfully mature Apples product complexities. In 2011 the FIeld & Carrier teams were transitioned over to Apple's SW organisation whilst Alistair concentrated on the drive to optimise Apples HW performance within the various Radio Access Technologies throughout the globe and the transition of the Regulatory Compliance responsibilities from an Operations organisation and into Engineering in order to secure future design decisions within the challenging landscape of Certification. In 2013 the FIeld teams were integrated back into Alistair’s organisation and over the past years the footprint has expanded significantly (30+ Countries & 170+ Carriers) to align with Apples market focus and the ‘Field’ engineering base now addresses many technological challenges within the Wireless Domain, Cellular, GNSS, NFC/Felica, Systems Performance and beyond.Alistair’s focus exposed interworking within many parts of Apples organisation, Legal, Government Affairs, Trade Compliance, Customs, Operations, SW, HW Technologies, Product Integrity, GS, NPS, Facilities, Real Estate, Mergers & Acquisitions, etc. and he has further collaborated with a wealth of external organisations and gained exposure to many vertices within Apples business including Mapping, Exercise Physiology, Robotics, Automation, University Relations, Start Up engagements to name a few.
