For 20 years, Spam Resource is where I have shared knowledge about email, spam and abuse prevention, list management and deliverability. I help to define and reinforce best practices by sharing my point of view and by translating "what everybody knows" into posted FAQs and linkable documentation. My goal is to drive the rising tide of anti-spam policy improvements and highlight both bad and good actors. Also includes DNSBL.com, where I track anti-spam blacklists.It should go without saying that nothing on Spam Resource should be considered approved by or a statement of any employer I've had since the site launched many years ago.

Wombatmail (formerly XNND) is my cloud-based web utility that provides free, linkable DNS lookups and troubleshooting. My goal is to host a simple platform for end users to perform DNS troubleshooting, while making the maintenance and overhead as easy for me as possible. I also use it to host and share code examples for email marketing best practices, like double opt-in email validation, fun things with data, deliverability tools and more.

A focus area for me was assisting product and engineering with efforts to enable all clients to be able to comply with the new Yahoo/Gmail February 2024 sender requirements, and then nudge those clients toward full compliance. Here I managed a smart team of deliverability operations consultants, ready and eager to help clients address their inbox woes. We focused on "urgent care" style review and remediation to help quickly measure and guide on what to do to solve deliverability issues.I also built many things, including an ISP feedback loop handler and monitoring system, blacklist monitoring system, elevated bounce alerting tool, reputation auditing/overview monitoring system, and more. I provided ongoing consultation and remediation guidance on complex deliverability-related issues, email authentication and DMARC compliance, ISP feedback loops, and other random things. If somebody had a weird question about how list-unsub-post is supposed to work, I'm apparently the person they would come ask about it.I'm also a Pragmatic Marketing-certified product manager. I've designed and product managed various feature enhancements in Marketing Cloud, including email pre-header support, integration with a predictive intelligence platform, blackout calendar management, and dynamic variable reply-to header mapping and more.

Created initial web presence for this jazz club located in St. Paul, Minnesota. Developed all content and code. Built custom web application functionality for online calendar and email list management. Grew email list from zero to 5,000 recipients through organic search and managed email program. Managed paid search program. Designed and created posters and signage. Occasionally worked the door, once in a while having to gently suggest that unruly patrons take their business elsewhere. Left on good terms; left only because of move out of state.

Help design and execute marketing programs, focusing on the technical side of implementation and operational execution. Point person on spam issues and email deliverability issues. Worked closely with ISPs and anti-spam blacklist groups. Remediated client practices and occasionally terminated email services to clients for misuse. Did a lot of SQL hacking both on Oracle and MySQL. Built an email response handler, feedback loop processing mechanism, custom reporting and other bits and bobs. Often built the V1 of a feature first, then to have a "real" developer take it and scale it up to fit our full requirements.

Designed, created, and maintained a popular anti-spam filter called Relay Spam Stopper. Also, investigated various spam/list management issues. I created this particular anti-spam filter (Relay Spam Stopper) in 1998 and managed it as a hobby, and then for pay.

Started as a prepress technician, i.e. a mac jockey. Retouching, design, and execution for print advertising. Later was a unix systems administrator, where among other things, I managed the company's internet presence and rolled my own spam filters.
