In collaboration with the Sacramento-based California Homeless Youth Project (CHYP), this project aims to create a geographical information system (GIS) and data visualization tool that integrates data from disparate sources on youth and young adults experiencing homelessness in California. This intersectional information hub will gather data from several databases to bolster advocacy efforts and improve data analysis with the long-term goal of ending homelessness for youth and young adults in California.During the first phase of the project, we will leverage existing governmental data collected according to the requirements of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and by the California Department of Education. We will then collect additional data from community partners in 6 counties/regions, including 3 rural and 3 urban counties. They include: Central Sierra Counties, and Humboldt, Mendocino, San Diego, San Bernardino, and Sacramento Counties. The resulting data visualization tool will elevate statewide efforts to shed light on and increase resources for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness in California.
