Aliyu Sadiq is a young environmental professional currently pursuing a Masters in Environmental Science Policy and Management (MESPOM) under the European Union funded Erasmus Mundus + Scholarship.Aliyu co-founded Ecocykle, a non-profit organization promoting climate action and circular economy initiatives in Africa, and has trained over 10,000 youth and women on green skills, developed many low-tech waste solutions for remote Nigerian communities, and invented 2 SDGs games (PLAN & GBV Avengers). Aliyu holds a robust leadership portfolio, including founding National Coordinator of the Climate Justice Youth Ambassadors Network, Country Organizer for Climate Clock Nigeria, and African Focal Point for HEY Campaign.Aliyu is an alumnus of the Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice, represented Nigeria at the inaugural Young African Leaders study trip (COOL CZECHIA) funded by the Government of Czech Republic, and was recognized by Unity Bank as a young sustainability champion in 2023. Aliyu is a member of the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA), Nigerian Environment Society, CIVICUS Alliance, Recyclers Association of Nigeria, and Africa Coalition for Sustainable Energy and Access. He was a youth delegate at the 27th and 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Egypt and Dubai respectively. Aliyu is also a fellow to the ALIWA Young Leadership Programme (AYLP), Friedrich Ebert Stiftung’s Open Minds Young Voices (OMYV), Sustainable Solutions Africa 30 Under 30 Fellowship, Civic Changemakers Fellowship, and African Youth for Environment Fellowship.Among his pioneering projects include the invention of a game to advance climate literacy in grassroots communities, the Smart Mobile Bin (SMB) to foster waste management in urban slums, and use of plastic waste to construct eco-friendly toilets to improve sanitation and minimize open defecation in public underserved schools in Nigeria. Aliyu’s dedication has earned him multiple awards, including the 2023 Green Skill Award, 2022 OXFAM Youth Spotlight Award, Best African Youth for Environment Fellow Award, a nomination for The Future Awards Africa, and the Global Recycling Hero Award. Recently, his initiative received an official commendation by the Federal Ministry of Environment.With extensive experience working with youth, grassroot communities and faith-based organizations on climate and sustainability projects, Aliyu is skilled in project management, social entrepreneurship, strategy, communication, fundraising, stakeholders engagement, training, campaigns, amongst others.
