"Joie de Vivre." French for "The joy of living" or "exultation of the spirit". What is the American English equivalent? Does an AE speaking individual have any terms so carefree - so full of life - to describe this buoyant, self-satisfied feeling?Why do AE speakers so often have to reach beyond their own language to describe such a state of pleasure? In Feb. of 2010 I embarked on a plan to develop a Wellness magazine that would inspire and encourage people to explore their own life passions further. The working title of the magazine was BradyWell Magazine. In soliciting writers for BradyWell Magazine, I ran into unexpected complications. I simply could not find writers with the buoyant style of voice I wanted for the magazine. In addition, even the concept of happiness as a tool for wellness seemed too far-fetched for the general public to accept.This led me in a new direction for the magazine. I polled hundreds of people in the following months to learn more about what "happiness" meant to them.Again and again, I heard similar stories.: "Happiness is elusive;" "Nice work if you can get it;""Happiness is a momentary, fleeting thing."How can it be? How can happiness be such a Holy Grail for the U.S.?With this question in mind, I set forth a new purpose and a new title for my fledgling magazine: "How Do YOU Say Happy?" But the question remains. Are U.S. citizens looking for happiness, or are there more important things on their minds?Revitalization. Rejuvenation. Relief. The Three R's. This seems to be what the U.S. public craves most for the spirit. My "Joie de Vivre" talk addresses these considerations. If happiness is a skill, we may need to take baby steps to get there. If it's a new skill, it may take time to be able to get on "The Happiness Bike" and ride.Cut yourself some slack. Look for a little relief in any area of your life, and you're already on your way there. You might be surprised how far a little relief can take you.

BradyWell Magazine is going through a transformation. When I started looking for staff for the magazine, I came upon a revelation: "happy" is an elusive thing.I haven't paid attention to the "pursuit of happiness" articles -- didn't realize that happiness is in need of pursuing.As a wellness practitioner, guiding clients towards ever-increasing states of wellness, my focus is always on where they're heading in their healing, not where they've been. In fact, with a good understanding of how "sympathetic resonance" works, I pay little attention to things that don't support and increase my own happiness. So I wasn't aware of how bereft our culture apparently feels towards the "elusive" quality that is happiness.I started polling, on facebook and in person, to learn more about people's attitudes towards happiness: is it important to them; do they find indicators of it in their daily lives; do they see models and examples of happiness in their culture, the media, their environment; do they place value on it?I'm startled and dismayed at the results. But it's come to my attention that I am an ambassador for "happy." Everything I do might be considered "PR" work for "happy."With this new understanding, I'm making some changes across the board.One big change is a change to the magazine. Responses to the question/phrase: "How Do YOU Say Happy?" have been exceptionally good. So that's where we are going with the magazine. The underlying format is much the same, just a little more playful and simplified. The word of the decade is now: "HAPPY."

Since 2007, I've been working as a professional Medical Intuitive, coaching individuals who "have run out of options" for their health. Over time, the Brady Wellness Center developed an extensive team of medical/scientific/complementary med resources who help me to piece together the detective novel that is the human and animal health system. Together, as a team we are also working to put together a medical center that takes advantage of all the discoveries that have been made through the Brady Wellness Center team, allowing a larger population to hopefully have access to the benefits of a more comprehensive medical center than has been available up to this time.To document the discoveries we have made through the Brady Wellness Center, I am writing a work of fiction called "God Has Parkinson's", This novel, a blend of Indiana Jones, Lara Croft, Joseph Campbell and The Da Vinci Code, unveils a strange mystery through the eyes of archaeologist, Katherine Haskins, as explorations lead her into the strange worlds of medicine, from an archaeologist's perspective. As a historical narrative, much of the settings and individuals are real, only the story and the main character are fiction.
