My project explored the treatment potential of a radiation oncology treatment known as spatially-fractionated radiation therapy (SFRT) for canine osteosarcoma through an interesting mix of in vitro and in silico radiobiology experiments involving real-life cell-culture assays and computer-generated radiation simulations. In addition to designing and executing experiments, I also manage and mentor several undergraduate and veterinary students in fundamental research skills, training them how to think like a scientist and develop testable and interesting research questions. I also built and maintain the foundational digital infrastructure for our brand new lab that includes organizational systems for both administrative and experimental tasks and goals.

Molecular Nutrition Department - Poole Lab And Barrow Lab

Dr. Angela Poole's Lab (Feb 2020-May 2020, June 2021-Sept 2022):As an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Angela Poole's Lab, I aid in the the lab's current studies that explore how gene copy number of the salivary amylase gene AMY1 may affect the gut and oral microbiome. Our current studies focus on the potential relationship between AMY1 copy number and risk of periodontitis, an oral disease caused by dysbiosis of the oral microbiome that has been linked with wide range of other systemic health problems, including diabetes and heart disease. This research hopes to further illuminate the connection between host genetics, oral microbiome composition and function, and the microbiome's role in host health. I completed an independent Honors Thesis project that aimed to develop a representative in vitro oral biofilm model that can used for future studies. Dr. Joeva Barrow's Lab (September 2020-December 2020):As an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Joeva Barrow's Lab, I aided in the the lab's current studies that aim to explore the possible activation of non-shivering thermogenesis in adipose tissues through genetic manipulation, specifically studying the role of the Nipsnap1 gene in order to further research in obesity treatment. I worked closely with my graduate student supervisor Yang Liu to perform experiments, collect data, and interpret results. Additionally, I conducted my own independent siRNA experiment. From this experience, I've acquired proficiency in several wet lab techniques such as Western Blotting, RNA extraction, DNA electrophoresis, PCR, and BCA protein quantification. Through active engagement in our lab's research and through weekly discussions of primary scientific literature, I greatly improved my critical thinking abilities and strengthened my passion for science.

As a Resident Advisor for the Multicultural Living Learning Unit (McLLU) Program House at Cornell University, I foster a welcoming, supportive, respectful, and safe community atmosphere. The McLLU community doubles as both a Program House centralized around the theme of multiculturalism and a first-year community, granting me the unique opportunity to be new students' first introduction to Cornell and college life as a whole. In this role, I design programming that assists students' transition to college life and fosters appreciation and respect for cultural diversity. Additionally, I serve as a community leader, peer counselor and mentor, crisis manager, and academic and personal resource for my residents.
