It felt fitting for me to start my new venture, Nallasway, on what would be the 25th Anniversary of taking Nallatech full time. Nallasway is a consulting and speaking business in the area of Domain Specific Architectures. Here, I'm hoping to sway the industry and build a community around taking Computing Architecture back to First Principles.

Leading OCP's efforts to better understand and support the HPC community including leveraging from the various activities going on with other OCP Projects. With Machine Learning architectures looking very similar to traditional HPC ones, we have an opportunity to Open Source Modular HPC Hardware to make it more cost effective and accessible to a wider HPC customer base. Please come and join us and help democratize HPC.

Helped define product roadmap of AI Inference Accelerator Boards that could be deployed in modern heterogeneous computing systems and be scaled up to LLM neural networks like GPT3/Chatgpt. Helped engineering to efficiently package their silicon with a sympathetic eye to board level routing, Signal & Power integrity, and implementation challenges. Helped plan silicon roadmaps while accounting for our industry’s shifting dynamics for energy efficient IO including the future adoption of Chiplets.

Helping our industry understand the value that OpenCAPI brings to Memory Channels and Accelerators, while also capturing feedback on how the Consortium can enable easier adoption of this technology. Encourage open debate around how OpenCAPI can compliment other Fabric Technologies without losing it's critical advantages.

After the Molex ISI Group acquired BittWare in the first half of 2018 the number of FPGA computing related brands we had was getting unwieldy. So we have reorganized our business and put Nallatech and BittWare together under the BittWare brand name. We have also pulled together Innovative integration and ISI into ISI Microsystems. I am now the CTO above both of these organisations. FPGA based compute acceleration is still my primary focus but this is heavily biased towards how our technology fits into a Heterogeneous Data Centric Computing world. To this end, I see BittWare as being focused on High Performance FPGA Compute Acceleration solutions within the Data Center and Edge of Network Configurations while ISI Microsystems focuses on Edge of Network Micro Nodes and Near Sensor Computing. Bringing these two capabilities together allows the Molex ISI Group to offer fully optimized distributed computing solutions that fit perfectly with our customers applications. My role also includes leveraging Molex's capabilities and technologies across the various divisions and collaborating very closely with external partners in the entire FPGA and generic Computing Ecosystem which is essential for us to successfully fulfill our customers needs.

After Nallatech was acquired by Interconnect Systems Inc, ISI, in 2008, I relocated to ISI's headquarters in Camarillo, California. Here, I am responsible for developing the US based Nallatech Engineering team as well as leveraging and cross fertilizing the capabilities throughout the ISI group of companies. I play an instrumental role in developing large business opportunities in both the Government and Commercial space for FPGA Accelerated Computing. This also involves collaborating closely with partners in the vertical food chain from the FPGA silicon providers to IP, Software & Server providers.

During the handover period to Nallatech's new CEO we strategically realigned the company to focus on the growing FPGA compute market in the defense sector while also keeping a small part of the business on the growing interest in FPGA computing from the High Performance Computing, HPC, industry. As the entrepreneur in residence I drove the development of our HPC business and successfully brought Intel to Nallatech, where we integrated our technology and tools into Intel's Server platforms. This formed an important part of Intel's strategy to support accelerators in their architectures. I also spent a great deal of time presenting on FPGA Computing and Future computing architectures at conferences around the world and have an overall Business Development role, working closely on Nallatech's larger opportunities.

I founded Nallatech in 1993 as a part time consultancy business specialising in FPGA computing Acceleration. I took the company full time when I moved to Scotland in 1995. I grew the company as a services business and then introduced our first FPGA Centric Computing Products, DIME, in 1998. The Second generation DIME-II together with a growing array of software tools were introduced from 2001 onwards. As the CEO I grew the company organically until I brought on £2M of Venture Capital funding in December 2000. The company grew at a 60% compound annual growth rate over 5 consecutive years to £5.8M in 2005, when I handed the CEO reigns across to my successor and became the president and founder at Nallatech.

I started with MBDA in 1982 as an Electrical & Electronic Engineering Apprentice. After gaining experience in many departments I settled in the "Engineering Computing Resources" department that managed all of our DEC VAX and PDP computers for the engineers in MBDA. I worked on building bespoke Weapon System test equipment based on the DEC PDP. During this post I took leave to gain my 1st class degree in Electronics. During the latter years at MBDA I became a systems engineer architecting and developing large compute based simulators that were tigtly coupled to the weapon system These systems had as much as 200 timies more compute power than the weapon system they were testing and were bespoke built from the latest Intel Vector processors, TI DSPs and FPGAs. They operated in real time so that live missiles could be fired at our simulated targets.
