The Institute of Energy Studies and Research is the training and research arm of the Kenya Power and Lighting Company. My internship involved:-Assisting with the review of reports and other publications from the Research department on current projects such as grid management through the National Control Center and Clean Cooking Technologies with a focus on e-cookers and their impact on increased electricity consumption​​​​​​​-Coordinating with the Capacity Building department on the analysis of survey data using SPSS to gain insights on general satisfaction in our pro and statistics-backed recommendations for improvement-Data gathering and mining of online resources for generation of reports such as the Forecasting abilities available to the company in the generation of power from renewable sources and solving of intermittency issues

The apprentice position involved intensive on-the-job training and performance of fleet management activities, logistics planning and fleet operation optimization. The job tasks were:-Undertaking fleet data analysis and compiling daily reports on fleet availability and relevant statistics in Excel and PowerPointStaging and maintaining dashboards on Power BI for ease of fleet analysis reporting-Maintaining daily record of transport needs by different company departments for analysis of deliverability track record of the department-Collaborating with fellow staff via SharePoint on uploading of work tickets and job cards for driversShadowing senior staf in managing procurement processes in the tendering for and acquiring of vehicle parts and services-Optimizing daily office tasks for quick but thorough and efficient delivery on work-Maintaining high performance culture by ensuring efficiency in work processes which drives improvement in the performance of fleet department projects

• Interact daily with patrons at the front desk, including professors and students, to offer assistance where necessary• Assist supervisors to catalogue, shelf and maintain the scores and literature books in their rightful locations within the library• Regularly use online library systems to find and reserve books for patrons

• Secured three companies as channel partners in the distribution of their clean energy products to the bank’s customer base• Targeted small businesses offering clean energy products targeted at customers in the microfinance space for financial investment• Conducted social media drives as a marketing tool for the clean energy products being distributed• Prepared promotional material for the product drives the Energy department would run with its channel partners• Coordinated outreach to un-banked customers who opened bank accounts and purchased bio-gas and natural gas products from our channel partners

• Shadowed the design and implementation of bio-sanitation projects installing sanitation systems in eight selected school sites• Assisted in the direct installation of bio-gas q-bags in three sites• Oversaw the reporting of maintenance terms to school officials• Conducted follow-up service calls to the schools once the systems were in place• Regularly interacted with the hired labor to ensure maximum day-to-day productivity

• Manage and coordinate Cornell students planning to go abroad for volunteerships and internships with fellow Outgoing Exchange team members• Engage in globalization by establishing partnerships with organizations abroad looking for interns from the United States through AIESEC• Develop responsibility and initiative in participants by ensuring their commitment and active involvement in the application process

• Troubleshoot and solve problems with printers and computers in computer labs across campus• Assist patrons with software and hardware related inquiries • Aid professors during classes involving the use of computer labs and the technological resources within• Submit reports and creative suggestions on the workings of the lab to better their functioning for student use

• Explored interactions between arabidopsis thaliana induced mutants and selected pathogens in different temperature conditions• Mastered laboratory techniques and contributed data collected from arabidopsis plots• Grew and maintained several arabidopsis plots• Prepared the lab bench and PCR materials before lab sessions

• Conducted market research for cross-border expansion of the bank into Zimbabwe• Developed a market analysis report on market entry logistics for review• Researched and evaluated market data extensively using online databases, news reports and bank resources• Assisted in the composition of questionnaires and conducted interviews with heads of bank departments and affiliated persons for theEquity Book

• Worked with a team of 14 other interns to create an abridged SAT and ACT revision curriculum for 150 of the top Kenyan students who were applying touniversities abroad • Effectively oversaw two workshops and a three-week boot-camp within which students learned strategies for success in the SATs and ACTs and gained skills in networking and impression management • Developed professionalism, academic vitality and creativity in the students through mentorship • Engaged in fruitful and direct conversation with the President of Kenya on his potential future input in the Equity College Counselling Program, and the Kenyan student community as a whole
