Our daughter Zaidee Rose Alexander Turner - aged 7 years and 22 days died suddenly on 2nd December 2004 from a burst blood vessel in her brain called a Cerebral Aneurism. The Turner family are registered Organ and Tissue Donors, as a result Zaidee donated her organs and tissues at the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne as were her wishes at the time. Zaidee was the only child in Victoria under the age of 16 years and we have been told one of the youngest Australians to donate her organs and tissues in 2004. She was only I of 6 children nationally to donate their organs.We drive Zaidee’s message within the sport and community, from the most elite sporting teams and players in the AFL, NRL, Netball, Soccer, Cricket to the grass roots in all sporting codes nationally right down to the NAB AFL Auskick program. We encourage all children and parents to talk about this subject so everyone understands your wishes should you be in a position as Zaidee was to become a donor. The discussion you have today could save the lives in the future. In 2015 Australia recorded the largest year for solid organ donors in 45 years of transplants with 503 donations, from this 1171 solid organ had been transplanted still 1400 short of what is need to allow others on the waiting list to get their transplant.Currently around 20 to 30 children die every year on the transplant waiting list because they don’t get a chance to have a transplant as Australia has one of the world’s lowest donation rates. Our aim as a Foundation is to make a difference and assist to increase this donation rate via Zaidee’s Story and national campaign with Zaidee’s Rainbow Shoelaces.Concept of Shoelaces Zaidee’s Rainbow Shoelaces is the Foundations and the national symbols to create awareness for this subject and so the public can reflect their support and wear, they are sold for just $2 a pair nationally.Please click onto Zaidee's website www.zaidee.org for more information. www.zaideeschool.org
