As a founding team member and Full stack engineer at OneShot.ai, I have worked on developing Oneshot’s very first version of the product, to the version that has now turned into a multi-million-dollar venture.Throughout the time, I've learned to view engineering requirements not just from the perspective of a developer but also from that of a customer, a founder, a product manager, and a UI/UX designer. Thinking from different perspectives allowed me to appreciate the diverse ideas and opinions that contribute to the core of our company.So far, I've made 6,000+ contributions to Oneshot's products on github.As the company evolved, it has taught to appreciate the process of software development in a growing startup.Tracing back to how I found my profound interest to work for startups, goes back to the time I spent at university. The people and environment it has provided, mainly the time spent competing in several hackathons with my group, has instilled a great interest in wanting to not just know, but be a part of building a product ground up.It's not a lot of time that I spent in the industry, but a few takeaways for me:🌱 Resilience & perspective 🌱Working at a startup comes with its fair share of highs and lows. Navigating these setbacks without losing sight of our vision has instilled resilience. Along the way, I've engaged with various voices within the company and our customers, that has deepened my understanding and broadened my perspectives which which have changed my approach to software development.📊 Prioritisation 📊Observing the company's leaders, Venki and Gautam, has taught me the art of prioritisation. In a startup, there are always a hundred things to do, and all of them can seem crucial. It's essential to prioritise tasks by bearing in mind what weights it could add to the present and to the future in terms of tech advancement, customer satisfaction, sales and marketing.🤔 Line between innovation & necessity 🤔As an engineer it is always tempting to learn and implement new tech while working on features.But it is important to take a step back and evaluate if the time spent to innovate is worth the value it can bring with it.🧘‍♂️ stop and take a break 🧘‍♂️There will always be N number of things to do,but realising that taking a break is worth putting on top of that list is important.
